Man pulled from Lake Shafer Sunday after nearly drowning, in critical condition

MONTICELLO – A water rescue team found a 54-year-old man in 18 feet of water Sunday after he nearly drowned near Indiana Beach along Lake Shafer, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources reported.

A DNR team searched for 28 minutes before finding Roger Jones Jr. 43, in the water near a pier at the Riviera Resort, where his family had last seen him Sunday afternoon. His family had called 911 at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, reporting him missing near the resort.

According to the DNR, Jones was flown to an Indianapolis hospital in critical condition Sunday evening. His updated condition and more details about what happened were not immediately available Monday.
